Welcome to the NLRA!
“The aim of the Living Rosary is to ask God, through the intercession of Our Lady of the Rosary, for the conservation of the Faith in Catholic countries, the conversion of sinners, the strengthening of the just, and the exaltation of the Holy Church. The people who join together for this pious exercise, divide among themselves the recitation of the prayers of the entire Rosary, and divide into groups of 15, in honor of the 15 principal mysteries of our redemption. Their intention is to form, by the union of their hearts, as so many living rosaries which unceasingly recall to the Celestial Father the sign of salvation manifested to St. Dominic by the Mother of Mercies. After Our Lady of the Rosary, the Association recognizes and honors as its mediatrix before God, the illustrious Virgin and Martyr, St. Philomena, named by the Sovereign Pontiff, protectress of the Living Rosary. ” Venerable Pauline Marie Jaricot, foundress of the first Living Rosary
The Universal Living Rosary Association is a beautiful tradition that was started by Ven. Pauline Jaricot to pray for the missions and the needs of the Church. As the complete Rosary of that time was fifteen decades, groups of fifteen people were grouped to form “living rosaries” and had the mysteries distributed among them, one daily decade assigned to each. Each person played a small part, but the group together made an entire fifteen decade Rosary each day. Various groups, like the one linked earlier, strive to carry on the custom Pauline started. There’s just one thing: the complete Rosary is no longer fifteen decades, but twenty, thanks to the prophetic Pope St. John Paul II who wanted us to pray the fullness of Christ’s life with Mary. Some local groups try organize their living rosaries this way, but we have yet to see a universal twenty decade Living Rosary. That is what I’m aiming to accomplish here.
Here’s how it works, and how you can help. Anyone interested in taking up a decade, simply emails me at jmjtheresephilomenavianneypro@gmail.com — putting “New Living Rosary” in the subject line — and waits while I gather a group of twenty. When the twenty persons have been grouped, I will begin to assign a mystery for each name using random selection. You will then be emailed your mystery, enrollment date, and ID number. After that you simply say your decade each day for the intentions stated by Ven. Pauline Jaricot, as well as your own intentions and those of Living Rosary members everywhere. I will keep organizing groups of twenty until thousands then millions then billions of living Rosaries are being prayed throughout the universal Church, then we will go from being the NLRA to being the NULRA!
Your daily decade is a lifelong commitment, but an easy one. Don’t believe it a sin if you sometimes forget or neglect your decade, just do your best to remember and persevere. If at any point you can no longer participate, simply email me (be sure to include your ID number) and I will reassign your decade, no questions asked. When your earthly life is at a close, the procedure is the same: have someone email me with your ID number and I will reassign your decade, as well as add an intention for your soul to our list of intentions. I will offer my Mass and Communion for you and all living and deceased NLRA members on the first Sunday of each month, asking St. Philomena’s prayers for you all.
Your ID number tells you which Rosary group you are in and which decade you’re charged with. For example, R1D16 — Rosary 1 Decade 16 — will be the ID number of the member of our first member to be assigned the Resurrection. [Some Star Wars fan is going to be very happy if he or she gets the ID number R2D2, lol! :)]
To pray your decade: make the Sign of the Cross, announce and meditate for a moment on the mystery, then say the Our Father and ten Hail Marys, then close with the Glory Be and the “O My Jesus” and bless yourself again. I have already said the Creed and introductory prayers for all of you, and at the end of the age we will all gather before Our Lady’s throne and say the Hail Holy Queen together!
Our patron saints are Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Philomena, Ven. Pauline Jaricot, and Pope St. John Paul II.
For spiritual reading I recommend Rosarium Virginis Mariae by Pope St. JP2, The Secret of the Rosary by St. Louis De Montfort, and Wonder Worker Saint Philomena by Cecily Hallack. I will also post updates for members on my blog, as well as start up a Facebook page titled “New Living Rosary Association – NLRA” for FB using members.
God bless you! Pax tecum!
